MFI – Links “We Connect You”

Project Summary

SUMMARY

Our company is established to connect people who we know that they are facing obstacles in having access to the communities. Those groups of people are international students, the elderly, new residents and mothers with a baby. This time, we will focus on international students because we have the experience of being international students and have conducted research and survey on the sampling of international students around the world. We will connect the international students who have limited access to the local communities by providing unique services.

PROBLEM

Based on our experience and research that we have done for this project, we found that many international students are facing obstacles: pre-arrival, post-arrival and during their study. For example, in the stage of pre-arrival; a student has found difficulty in finding the appropriate school, housing, transportation and many more. As for the stage of post-arrival, many of them have difficulties in opening a bank account or applying for a state ID which consume a lot of time. Not only that, we also found the fact that many international students have a very limited opportunity to network, build relationship during their stay with the local communities.

SOLUTION

As a solution, we provide services based on our three values: first one is One Stop. The international students face many obstacles in their future. If they try to solve these issues by themselves they have to do many things on their own. For example, if they want to find a school, they have to contact many universities or English schools. Also when they have to get an airline ticket, they should ask a travel agency or airline companies. In addition, in finding a house, students must contact real estate firms or check local newspaper and website on a daily basis. Some of them might have troubles to deal with them. We help international students find the best choice for this matter. The only thing students need to do is to contact us. We offer everything they want as one stop shopping. We can do because we have long and strong relationship with local players, such as: universities, English schools, local air carriers, rental car companies, banks, etc. Therefore, students can make use of our network. Since we all have experience as real international students in Hawaii, we understand enough about Hawaii and its student life. Thus, we are sure that we can provide customer service for international students.
Our second value is networking. Most of international students want to make network or make friends during their stay. But, they do not have enough access to others in Hawaii. Therefore, it is very difficult to meet local people or students at a different school on their own. In this case, international students might become homesick because Hawaii is not their home country. We can help them keep connected to others (e.g: students of different schools, alumni, etc).
